Description:  This class is designed to help students to come to a better and deeper biblical understanding of why they believe what they believe. In our world today, fewer and fewer young people are being challenged to truly understand what they believe and ask the hard questions, with expectation that the Bible can give them an answer. During this class the student will be challenged to not only learn a biblical worldview, but also defend it. They will be challenged with both sides of an argument and have to learn to give a rational, biblical, and loving response. The format of the class will be Socratic, which simply means it will be mostly discussion and less lecture. There is no required text, but I will be assigning articles for them to read that will be posted on a google drive page online. We will walk through a progression of learning in class. First, we will talk about why we believe the Bible and build a foundation of biblical truth. Then, we will spend some time on how one can study the Bible and understand it for ones self. After which, we will do a brief survey of biblical teaching and the over arching themes. Lastly, we will walk through different modern issues and seek a biblical understanding of them. Issues like gay marriage, transgender, dating in a biblical view, etc, and finish with what living for Christ really means. The goal of the class is to get the student to think and try and understand for themselves what they believe. I, as the instructor, will play a lot of devil's advocate to try and force them not to give the easy answer but strive to understand the conversation and why they believe the way they do. This class is designed for high school. Let us not let college be the first time our students run into opposition and challenges to what they believe. Let's give them the tools now, so they can understand and be prepared to give an answer for what they believe.
