Description: I love to read! Books often bring me joy. This class is a bit different than previous Middle School Literature classes, but I think it will be enjoyable. Here is a bit of an overview from the text we will be using: "This is a middle school English course. ...Children will learn all about newspapers and how to write all kinds of articles. They will also read two works...each month, working through history... The literature is excellent and will be enjoyed by most students. The writing assignments will develop writing skills, especially the ability to be clear, concise, and focused. ...Students can also...create their own newspaper. This should be fun and not stressful."
Homework: There will be a variety of book-related or newspaper-related projects. We will be producing 2 to 3 newsletters for the families of HRT Academy as part of this class.
Tentative Book List:
Note: Plan to acquire a paper/print copy of each title. It is important for students to read the book. If it would help your student, they may listen to the books, but only if they are reading along in the print copy.

Description: This class is for the student who has done well in IEW-A, uses all six
dress-ups and sentence openers consistently, and works more independently. Students

necessary. Parents will be expected to assist their student with the writing process by
