Description: From 7Sisters: Career Exploration Textbook is a fun but powerful tool to assist your teen in evaluating potential careers. High school is such a busy time for teens. Sometimes, this academic busyness  means that they do not have time to clarify what will happen after graduation.

It is valuable for teens who do not know what to do after graduation as well as for teens who already have a plan.

For teens who do not have a clue what they want to do after graduation:

Career Exploration is a wise elective subject to add into their schedule. Instead of graduating from high school with a shrug of the shoulders and a sigh of, “Well, I guess I need to figure out what I want to do with my life now…” your teen can be intentionally exploring areas of:

  • interest
  • strength
  • talents
  • and values
  • While they are also seeking guidance from God
    • seeking wise counsel from trusted people
    • and trying out different types of job fields

That’s what Career Exploration Textbook gives to homeschool high schoolers who do not know what to do after graduation.

Teens who do have a plan for life after graduation will also benefit from a Career Exploration elective. In reviewing their strengths, talents, experiences and values… all in the context of seeking godly counsel homeschool high schoolers often solidify decisions.

Interestingly, we sometimes see them tweak their career decisions as they go through the Career Exploration process. (Better to tweak now than halfway through their college years.)

So, for both types of teens, 7Sisters Career Exploration Textbook provides a  lighthearted but comprehensive experience with this part of life preparation.

Note: **I also hope to have at least 10 people, from various fields/occupations, come in to share their stories with the class.**

Description: I have enjoyed watching musicals since my teen years (if not before). Whether on stage or on film, I thoroughly enjoy watching a good musical. For this class, students will watch a variety of musicals, covering at least a forty-year time frame, at home, as assigned, and we will discuss them in class and do related assignments. I hope to include a bit of musical history/trivia as well. I'm really excited to introduce my students to some musicals they may have never had the pleasure of watching before!

Length: One semester *(Offered Spring, 2027)*

Homework: Assignments will include watching each of the musicals assigned at home. There will also be related projects. A quiz will likely be given for each movie as well.

Description: I am really excited about looking more closely at Children’s Literature with your student this year. Over two decades ago, I took a Children’s Literature class in college and absolutely loved it. There is something delightful about children’s books that, to me, is timeless and enjoyable...no matter your age. I know the idea of studying children’s stories as a high school student may seem a little unusual, but I feel as a homeschool parent and tutor that we are able to study just about anything at any level. That is one of the joys of homeschooling. To be able to share with all of you my love of books and reading together brings me great joy. We will be doing a lot of reading, a lot of discussing, a lot of thinking, and, hopefully, some fun projects during this class.

I am hoping, to some degree, to examine the books we read through the lens of God’s Word, particularly Philippians 4:6-9. Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” These descriptive words will, at times, be our guide as we discuss the books we are reading...true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy...

I am looking forward to an amazing year of reading and discussing a variety of children’s books from the last 150 years. I pray that this class is a blessing and a joy to all who participate in it.

Description: I took a wonderful C.S. Lewis class in college and really enjoyed it. I thought it would a delight to study some of his works with a group of high school students. In this class we will read through a variety of works by C.S. Lewis and discuss them.

Homework: This will include reading the assigned literature by C.S. Lewis and related writing and other assignments.

Description:  In Who Dun It?: Murder Mystery Literature & Writing Second Edition, you will:

  • Read and analyze classic murder mysteries.
  • Learn the history of murder mysteries.
  • Analyze and create unique detective with strengths, weaknesses, and compelling personality.
  • Create a clever, elusive villain.
  • Complete helpful charts to develop each character.
  • Learn to form proper clues and where to place them.
  • Study the anatomy of a good red herring.
  • Outline each scene’s development.
  • Begin and end your story well with a strong inciting incident and a jaw-dropping reveal.
  • And finally, write your very own murder mystery!

It’s a rainy day and there’s only one thing to do! Make some hot chocolate and curl up with a cozy little murder mystery. Match your wits against the detective and see if you can discover who did it. Does that sound fun to your high school student? Have they dreamed of writing their own mystery?

Description:  This year, we will explore God’s amazing creation as we study plants, animals, and the human body. In class, students will learn to take guided notes on key concepts, and participate in a variety of hands-on activities and experiments. This course will include occasional tests and quizzes. All activities will be completed in class--no supplies to gather or messes to manage at home! Homework will consist of weekly reading assignments from our textbook.

Description: Does your student need a biology credit, but isn’t quite ready for traditional biology class? This may be a great option! This course takes students on a fascinating journey into one of the biggest questions in science--where did life come from? The beautifully designed textbooks take a deep dive into the theory of evolution alongside the evidence for creation, teaching students to think critically, analyze scientific data, and form well-supported conclusions of their own. We will study paleontology, biology, and geology as we examine real-world evidence and insights from scientists around the world. Description:  In this course, students will explore the exciting world of forensic science and learn how investigators use evidence to uncover the truth. We will study topics such as fingerprinting, DNA, shoe and tire impressions, blood spatter, fire investigation, through hands-on labs and interactive activities. Students will also examine real case studies to see how forensic science is used in investigations. All lessons are taught from a biblical worldview, encouraging students to seek truth, think critically, and see how science can be used to honor God. Homework will consist of weekly reading assignments from our textbook. Please note: This course deals with real cases and sensitive topics, and is therefore recommended for students in grades 11 and 12. *However, parents are welcome to register younger high school students at their discretion.
